Waterfront Inspection Manual
Insight Civil provided AutoCAD, report development and GIS services for the New York City Economic Development Corporation’s (NYCEDC) Waterfront Inspection Manual Update. In 1999, NYCEDC released an Inspection Guidelines Manual as guidance for engineering consultants to properly perform assessment of waterfront structures. Insight Civil and CH2M (now JACOBS) updated this manual to reflect new inspection standards, inclusion of a new category of waterfront infrastructure typologies (‘resiliency structures’ such as beaches, wave breaks, storm surge barriers, tide gates, natural features/wetlands and marches etc.) and an update to the WFMMS database in parallel with manual updates.
The inspection manual provides a set of guidelines for city-wide waterfront facility inspections and assessments, which was updated to include a revision of inspection standards and new categories of resiliency structures designed to protect against storm surge and other extreme weather events.
The Insight Civil team supported the CH2M (now JACOBS) team on the comprehensive update to NYCEDC’s Waterfront Facilities Maintenance Management System (WFMMS) to reflect the new standards set forth in the revised Waterfront Inspection Manual.
This project received a Gold Award in 2016 from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of New York.
