Starr Playground Multi-Purpose Area Reconstruction
Insight Civil was subcontracted by MKM Landscape Architects on the Starr Playground Multi-Purpose Area Reconstruction project located in the neighborhood of Ridgewood in Queens, NY. The playground first opened on Christmas Day in 1947 and is approximately 0.9 acres in size featuring play equipment with safety surfacing, benches, a flagpole with a yardarm, a drinking fountain, two handball courts, one full basketball court, an asphalt softball court, and a stone turtle statue.
Working in collaboration with MKM Landscape Architects, engineers at Insight Civil provided site/civil design services to address the proposed site improvements. Site improvements included reconstruction of the multi-purpose area including pavement, basketball courts, fencing, seating, and drinking fountains. Insight Civil provided an erosion and sediment control plan, and site drainage plans and details to promote positive flow toward the existing storm system and accommodate proposed landscape plantings (trees, shrubs, and ground cover). Additionally, Insight Civil delivered a domestic water plan to tie in a spray shower and water fountain on the site. The domestic water plan features recommended manufacturer specifications and NYCDPR standard details, and a sanitary utility line to collect and discharge foundation waste.
