Port Richmond High School Athletic Fields
Insight Civil supported MKM Landscape Architects on the Port Richmond High School Athletic Fields project with the NYC School Construction Authority (NYCSCA). MKM Landscape Architects was retained to deliver a complete overhaul of the main athletics field at Port Richmond High School in Staten Island, NY. Port Richmond High School is a public high school on the north shore of Staten Island in the neighborhood of Elm Park. Ther renovation of the athletic fields at PRHS is part of a larger Athletic Complex expansion program supported by the Community Education Council (CEC) and the NYC School Construction Authority (NYCSCA). Engineers at Insight Civil performed drainage system evaluation and cost estimation services for the underdrainage system for the athletic field. Engineers at Insight Civil reviewed the Port Richmond HS Athletic Field renovation plans designed by Langan Engineers for cost efficiencies and value engineering opportunities. The proposed renovations to the athletic field included construction of a new synthetic turf field and a renovated natural grass field on the site. Final project completion entailed a new synthetic turf multi-use field, updated natural grass fields, and an asphalt track. These facilities will be used for baseball, softball, football, lacrosse, and soccer programs at the high school.
Insight Civil prepared and provided cost estimates for the underdrainage system for the synthetic turf field, including perforated piping, perimeter collector pipes and basins, asphalt track drainage, existing drainage system and grades for the baseball field, CCTV and irrigation. Insight Civil also evaluated existing grades as well as calculations for surface drainage on natural grass fields and provided specifications and materials for the synthetic turf (multi-flow) drainage system.
The total construction cost of the comprehensive Athletic Complex upgrades is approximately $15.7 million, and will feature a new softball field, soccer, and lacrosse field in addition to the synthetic turf field. Construction is anticipated to be complete by July 2021.
