Meatpacking District Streetscape Improvements
Insight Civil was subcontracted to Ken Smith Workshop (KSW) to provide civil engineering design services for implementation of streetscape concept designs for 14th Street between 9th and 10th Avenues in Manhattan, NY. The Meatpacking District Management Association (Meatpacking BID) proposed a tree pit and tree guard installation project, as part of overall streetscape improvements in the Meatpacking District.
Engineers at Insight Civil provided civil engineering support services including evaluation, design and permitting for the tree pit and tree guard installation units designed by KSW. Civil engineering design support services were required to take the project from conceptual design through construction. Insight Civil was responsible for preparation of civil engineering construction documents as part of the landscape construction document set. Insight Civil also obtained agency record drawings to verify that all utilities and structures were identified and accounted for in the land survey for use in final design. Engineers at Insight Civil performed site visits to field verify locations of utilities and structures shown in record drawings and site surveys, attended design meetings as required with KSW, and scheduled and attended pre-design meetings with the client. Additional tasks included preparation and submission of builders pavement plan (BPP) and SCARA documentation and associated filings to NYCDOT. Insight Civil also worked with KSW to prepare and submit agency filings, including revocable consent documentation and filings to NYCDOT, NYC Parks documentation and filings, as well as participation in presentations to community boards and the LPC.
Construction of the streetscape improvements was successfully completed during late Fall 2019 and the Meatpacking BID intends to expand the streetscape improvement designs to other streets and blocks within the BID.
