McDonald Playground Drainage Improvements
Insight Civil Engineering, PLLC, is subcontracted to MKM Landscape Architects to provide civil engineering design services for the reconstruction of the play equipment area in McDonald Playground located in the neighborhood of Gravesend in Brooklyn, NY. The park, named after John R. McDonald who served as a chief clerk at Brooklyn Surrogate’s Court, is approximately 3.5 acres in size with tennis courts, spray showers, and play areas for children. Proposed site improvements include new play equipment, swing sets, spray play area, site pavement, and landscaping. Insight Civil provided design plans to accommodate these proposed site improvements. This included drainage plans and details to promote positive flow toward existing storm system, a domestic water plan to tie in spray shower and water fountain utilizing manufacturer specifications and NYCDPR standard details, curb cut plans for two new driveways, and erosion and sediment control plans and details.
Insight Civil prepared and provided stormwater calculations for multiple bioretention areas, which were proposed and designed to manage the water quality volume for the entire site. Insight evaluated site boring logs to utilize permeability coefficient in bio-retention basin calculations. Insight Civil also provided engineering review of the grading and drainage plans developed by the landscape architect, and an erosion and sediment control plan for the project. The amount of DPR funding allocated for this project is $3 - $5 million.
