Arverne View Resilient Landscaping Improvements
Insight Civil provided civil design support to Local Office Landscape Architecture (LOLA) for the Arverne View Resilient Landscape Design Improvements project. Engineers from Insight Civil provided engineering review and design input for schematic landscape design plans. Design components of this project included site hydrology calculations and development of a stormwater pollution prevention plan (SWPPP). The engineering team also made recommendations for implementation of best management practices for onsite stormwater management. Engineers prepared drawings and plan sets for submittal to DOB and responded to comments from DOB plan examiners. Landscape architects from LOLA designed installation of porous pavement on interior pedestrian pathways and walkways. Additional plantings along all interior pathways and courtyards were proposed, consisting of salt tolerant native species.
Lastly, protective plantings consisting of native pine species were proposed along the ocean side property line in order to slow velocity of tidal inundation waters in future hurricane and severe weather events. These landscape improvements are part of a suite of resiliency measures planned for implementation by the developer/owner to protect the residents of Arverne View and that will complement potential development plans for the neighboring Arverne East site.
